Ex. Coll: A gift from George Eastman, Rochester, NY to his personal physician, Dr. Edward Wright Mulligan (c. 1910-1920); thence by descent in the Mulligan family to the present.
Dr. Edward Mulligan was a physician and surgeon. Born in Ontario, Canada, he graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to Rochester, New York in 1882 and began to practice. He did his graduate work in New York City at New York Hospital Medical School and interned at Bellevue Hospital. In 1896 he started his residency at Rochester City Hospital and became a resident physician on staff in 1898. From 1917-1923 Mulligan was the Chief of Surgery at Rochester General Hospital. He was instrumental in founding the University of Rochester Medical School’s hospital, Strong Memorial. There is a Mulligan Collection dedicated to the history of medicine at the E. G. Minor Library, University of Rochester.
